Below is a list of product categories that will have the most demand during the Christmas season in 2022, according to our research. Wholesalers may want to buy and stock these product categories well in advance so that they are able to sell them throughout October, November, and December when the retailers will have the most demand for these products. More information on how wholesalers and retailers can get prepared for the Christmas season in advance is covered in our other article.

1. Mobile phones and accessories

These are highly demanded product categories throughout the year but their sales become particularly high during the festive season. The recent launch of iPhone 14 makes both the phone itself and accessories for that model particularly demanded, such as protective cases, earphones, power charging units, and others.

Apple manages the supply and logistics of the phone but there is still some quantity that goes through third-party wholesalers and retailers. Needless to say that the item is extremely demanded and independent distributors and retailers are hunting for it.

Other brands, such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Google, and Huawei also see a good spike in demand.

2. Fashion items – designer clothes, shoes, handbags, wallets, and purses

People love buying fashion-related items both for themselves and as gifts for others. The demand for fashion items increases several times during the season leading to the Christmas holidays. The post-pandemic holiday season is especially hungry for fashion items as people during the pandemic spent mostly at home without using much of “out-of-home” clothes, shoes, handbags, etc., and now they need new items to show up. Besides, let’s face it, many people sitting at home changed their size, and now they need a new size wardrobe to fit. This season is good for many brands, priced from quite affordable to very expensive.

Fashion items remain highly demanded also after Christmas and New Year, when the major discount sales start in January. Though the prices for some items drop in that period.

3. Jewelry and watches

Same as above, people came out of their houses and would like to show wearing new beautiful things. There is quite a lot of cash available since they weren’t spending much on going out, traveling, etc., so even highly-priced jewelry items and watches are in high demand this holiday season. The major jewelry and watchmaker brands are seeing a very nice boost in sales already.

4. Auto parts

Going back to offices means increased use of cars as in the past. Many people did not really service their cars much during the pandemic and now experiencing all sorts of car problems, such as the battery, radiators, breaks, steering and suspension issues, and other. Auto parts sales are on a significant rise now.

5. Toys and games

This is traditionally good selling product category for the season leading to the Christmas holidays. It is obviously attributed to people buying Christmas presents for children. This category sells the majority of items during this time of the year. This year is no different and we are beginning to see a nice rise in sales for toys and games. Games and toys that are particularly demanded this season include Littlest Pet Shop sets, Barbie doll sets, LOL sets, and LEGO sets.

6. Electric vehicles

Orders for electric cars currently have a waiting time of 3 to 12 months in the US. This includes orders for such brands as Audi, BMW, Kia, Lexus, Hyundai, Porsche, Tesla, and other major car brands. But it’s not only electric cars that are in great demand but also other electric vehicles, such as electric bikes, scooters, skateboards, and others. This year’s Christmas season sees a boost in sales for such brands as Ninebot, Segway, Appolo, Yvolution, GoTrax, and others. The current technologies allow the development of these product categories very rapidly, which drives the demand for them high. The pandemic has somehow slowed the use of these, and now, when things are returning to normal, we are seeing an explosive rise in demand for this category.

7. Sports and outdoor

Sports clothes, and sports gear, and camping equipment are good sellers this season. Such brands as Nike, Adidas, The North Face, Under Armor, and others are good bets for getting a lot of sales this season. People have been exercising, jogging, and going camping significantly more in the last several months, compared with the same period last year, and especially the year before it.

8. Food and Grocery

Four major holidays at this time of the year, including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve are perfect opportunities for people to party, eat and drink a lot. The consumption of food and drinks increases significantly at this time. In fact, for some people, this is the only time they cook. Almost all food and drink categories see a rise in demand. Selling food is specific though as it requires special transportation and storage, and we will cover this in one of our next articles.

9. Video games and consoles

Sales of video games, consoles, and game accessories also rise dramatically during the pre-Christmas time. Most of the new releases during the year are usually scheduled for the period from September to December, including installments of such series as Call of Duty, EA Fifa, 2K’s NBA, Nintendo’s Pokemon, and others. In addition, God of War Ragnarök is a much-anticipated release this year. Meta’s Quest Pro, even though quite expensive at $1,500, is expected to make good sales too.

Game consoles have been in short supply for the last two years because of the semiconductor crisis. There have been queues for obtaining PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X consoles. Things seem to have gotten better in the last couple of months, and wholesalers are able to provide a more or less steady supply of consoles, and they are currently hot items for sale.

10. Electronics and Computers

This is a hot-selling product category at a pre-Christmas time every year. It is convenient for gifts, and manufacturers always come up with interesting products that create steady demand from customers. Ultra slim laptops, electronics accessories, such as headsets, and others are hot sellers this holiday season. For certain products, this category may overlap with some of the product categories above, for example, mobile phones and accessories, video game consoles, VR headsets, etc.
