ALTERNATE is a German online retailer of computer hardware, components, peripherals and consumer electronics, based in Linden, Hesse. It was founded on 3 February 1992 in Gießen as a spin-off of Wave Computersysteme, initially selling Atari and Commodore computers by phone and fax, and moved to Linden in 1996. The online shop launched in 1997, and the company also runs a computer shop at its Linden site, with separate branches in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is a subsidiary of SHIFT IT Management GmbH & Co. KG Holding and had more than 800 employees in 2021.
