It began in 1925 in Chicago as a seller of radio parts kits and now makes microphones, wireless microphone systems, headphones and earphones, mixers and conferencing systems for stage, studio and meeting rooms. The SM57 and SM58 microphones, introduced in the 1960s, are among its best-known products. The company is privately held and has manufacturing in Illinois, Mexico and China.
