Pop-up shop

A pop-up shop is a retail location opened for a limited period. Businesses use it to test a market, support an event or sell a seasonal range without committing to a permanent store.

The temporary format may use a vacant shop, a market space or part of another venue. It allows a business to learn about demand, location and customer response with a defined selling period. Planning still needs to cover stock, staffing, payment facilities and what happens to unsold goods when the location closes.

For example, a brand might open a two-week shop to test a new area before considering a permanent lease. Assortment planning is important because limited space and time reduce the scope for slow-selling lines. Sales per square foot can provide useful context, but the short trading period affects comparisons with established stores.
